Keshav Pingali

Keshav Pingali holds the W.A. “Tex” Moncrief Chair in Distributed and Grid Computing in ICES, and he is a professor of computer science. He is also director of the ICES Center for Distributed and Grid Computing.

Dr. Pingali received his B.Tech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India, and his Sc.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Before moving to The University of Texas at Austin, he was a professor in the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University, where he held the India Chair of Computing.

Dr. Pingali’s research has focused on programming languages and compiler technology for program understanding, restructuring, and optimization. His group is known for its contributions to memory-hierarchy optimization; some of these have been patented and are in use in industrial compilers. His current research is focused on compilers, runtime systems, and tools for programming multicore processors.

Dr. Pingali is a fellow of the ACM, IEEE, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He served on the National Science Foundation CISE Advisory Committee from 2009-2012. He was the co-editor-in-chief of the “ACM Transactions on Programming Languages and Systems” (TOPLAS) between 2009 and 2011, and he serves on the editorial boards of several journals including the “International Journal of Parallel Processing” and “Distributed Computing.”
