James T. Willerson (1939 - 2020)

James Willerson was a world-renowned cardiologist and physician-scientist whose leadership greatly advanced cardiovascular medicine in Texas. He was known for his incredible work ethic and his passion for serving his patients. His research concentrated on the detection and treatment of unstable atherosclerotic plaques, and the discovery of the genes and abnormal proteins responsible for cardiovascular disease. The James T. Willerson Center for Cardiovascular Modeling and Simulation (WCCMS), founded in the Oden Institute to honor his legacy, works to advance his vision of connecting computation with transformative health applications.
