Portrait of Graham F. Carey

Graham Carey was a leader in computational fluid dynamics and adaptive finite element methods who helped build UT Austin’s early computational mechanics ecosystem. As a founding participant in TICOM and later a key contributor to ICES (now the Oden Institute), he created the Computational Fluid Dynamics Laboratory and mentored generations of computational scientists. His work—spanning algorithms, meshing, parallel computing, and software—helped establish enduring capabilities across the Institute. In 2011, the Graham F. Carey Undergraduate Scholarship in Computational Science was established in the Institute to honor his outstanding contributions to the field.
