Alex Demkov

Biography

Alexander Demkov earned his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Arizona State University. He is professor of physics and affiliated with the Center for Computational Materials.  Demkov is a materials physicist whose work integrates computational theory with experimental investigation. His research group examines the fundamental physics of oxide heterostructures and the integration of complex oxides with semiconductor platforms. His prior studies encompass the electronic, transport, and magnetic properties of diverse material systems, including high dielectric constant compounds, biominerals, and transition metal oxides. The central objective of his current research program is the monolithic integration of functional crystalline oxides with semiconductor materials to enable advanced applications in integrated silicon photonics, with particular emphasis on emerging modalities in optical computing. 

Demkov is a fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), a Fellow of the Materials Society a Senior Member of IEEE and recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award.He received the IBM Faculty Award (2011) and the 2014 AVS Excellence in Leadership Award.
