Gregory J. Rodin was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia (formerly Leningrad, USSR). He studied civil engineering at Saint Petersburg Technical University from 1974 to 1980. He obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1984 and 1986 under the supervision of Professor David M. Parks.
Gregory Rodin is a professor of aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics at The University of Texas at Austin, which he joined in 1986. He is also affiliated with ICES Multiscale Modeling Group and Texas Materials Institute.
Rodin is an expert in the field of computational micromechanics. He has published papers in leading archival journals in applied mathematics, material sciences, mechanics, numerical methods, and physics. He has also presented more than 100 invited lectures, mostly in the United States and European Union. He held visiting appointments at École Polytechnique (France), The University of Liverpool (UK), and The University of Stuttgart (Germany).
Current research topics include models and numerical methods for lattice structures, hierarchical representations, and viscous multi-phase flows.
