Radek Bukowski

Biography

Dr. Bukowski is a Professor and Associate Chair for Investigation and Discovery, in the Department of Women’s Health of the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, Honorary Senior Visiting Fellow University of Cambridge United Kingdom, and Affiliated Faculty Member Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. After receiving his M.D. with distinction and a Ph.D. in Reproductive Sciences from the Poznan University of Medical Sciences in Poznan, Poland and Freie Universitaet Berlin, Berlin, Germany, he completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Poznan University of Medical Sciences and second residency at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk Virginia. He received postdoctoral training in Reproductive Endocrinology at the Howard and Georgeanna Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Norfolk, Virginia. He then completed Fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and received Master of Medical Sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

Following the completion of his training, Dr. Bukowski was a Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, then Professor and Director of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Bukowski enjoys an international reputation and peer recognition for his research innovation and originality. His research was published by the leading general medicine and specialty journals. Those journals recognized several of his manuscripts by accompanying editorials.

Dr. Bukowski is considered one of the leading experts in pregnancy research, especially in the fields of computational medicine, maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity, preterm birth, fetal growth abnormalities, and individualization of care. He is leading a multidisciplinary group of computer and data scientists at the University of Texas at Austin in collaboration with the Texas Advanced Computing Center and Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences. Dr. Bukowski leads the Texas Computational Health Research Institute Initiative, a partnership between government, academia, industry, and philanthropy to develop computational solutions for healthcare stakeholders.

Co-Chairs the Oden Institute – Dell Medical School Working Group on a Graduate Degree Program in Computational Medicine; Quantitative Individualized Decision Making in Medicine Group, and Individualized Risk Communication in Decision Making in Medicine Group. He created and now leads the Individualized Computational Care Clinic (IC3), providing individualized consultations to patients during pregnancy based on developed computational models. Dr. Bukowski is a recipient of a number of grants from NIH and NSF and reviewer for several journals, including The Lancet, the Journal of the American Medical Association, the British Medical Journal, and AJOG. He has been appointed Associate Editor of Computational Medicine for American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the leading journal in this field in the world.
