Biography

Dr. Charles Jackson is a research scientist at the Institute for Geophysics at The University of Texas at Austin. He received a BS in physics from Haverford College and a PhD in geophysical science from the University of Chicago. He was a Visiting Research Scientist at Princeton University serving the NOAA Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory. Charles has been on the research staff at the Institute for Geophysics since his arrival in 2000. He is the current division head for Climate Dynamics at the Institute for Geophysics, and the theme leader for Climate and the Environment at the Jackson School of Geosciences.

Charles’ research program concerns the development of computational, statistical, and scientific strategies for assessing the credibility of numerical model predictions of the Earth system’s forced response to changes in radiative forcings. His scientific expertise is in coupled climate system dynamics, atmospheric physics, and problems where uncertain physics at the smallest scales affects large-scale system behaviors.
