The J. Tinsley Oden Faculty Fellowship Research Program at the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES) is made possible by an endowment donated by a private foundation. In March 2003, the program previously known as the Texas Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics (TICAM) Visiting Faculty Fellowship Program, was renamed in honor of Professor J. Tinsley Oden who has managed it since its inception. The name change occurred with the creation of the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, an interdisciplinary center that enveloped TICAM and broadened its scope to many new areas in computational engineering and sciences.
The purpose of the program is primarily twofold:
Income generated by the endowment is used to fund visiting researchers at ICES for varying periods of time ranging from two weeks to one year. These visiting positions are created to enhance the ICES research environment and to help ICES fulfill its mission as a research center. Priority is given to visitors who interact with hosts who are active in ICES research activities.
Since it was formed in 1993, ICES has sponsored over 400 international visits through the J. T. Oden Faculty Fellowship Program. Over 400 visitors have come from at least 32 countries from around the world. The countries represented by our current and past visiting fellows are:
