Abstract: Researchers and collaborators in the ICES Computational Visualization Center have spent the past several years studying and mathematically modeling viruses. During the same time, we have also been involved in the design and development of fast Fourier based search methods and relative free energy scoring methods for computational molecular drug design. The proposed Grand Challenge initiative is to combine these two prior research activities in effective computational ways to discover therapeutic cures for cancer. In this work a co-mingled two pronged computational approach will be pursued: (a) development of models of mutations to viruses for selective infection of tumor cells, (b) the virtual screening of cancer drugs for inhibiting viral antigens.
