Students entering the program are expected to have undergraduate degrees in engineering, computer sciences, mathematics, or a natural science such as physics or chemistry.
The master's degree can be earned with approved coursework and optionally a report or thesis. The student may fulfill any of the following options:
Regardless of the option chosen above, the course of study must include at least 24 credit hours of approved coursework taken on a letter-grade basis and chosen from courses in the three CSEM Concentration Areas A, B, and C. Moreover, at least six hours must be taken in each Area. Courses taken PASS/FAIL cannot be used to satisfy these CSEM course requirements.
All requirements of the Graduate School must also be fulfilled.

The student's overall grade point average must be 3.0 (B) or better.
If a student chooses the master's report or thesis option, a supervising committee consisting of an advisor and a reader must be chosen. The advisor must be a member of the CSEM GSC.
At the appropriate time, the student must submit a Graduate School application for candidacy. (See Forms for the Master's Applicant )
After completing all the requirements for a master's degree,
the student must prepare and submit the Graduation
Packet for Master's Candidate.
Written requests for waivers from any of the above requirements may be submitted to the CSEM Graduate Studies Subcommittee (GSSC) through the Graduate Advisor.
