CSEM Program: Financial Aid

Decisions concerning financial aid are made during the CSEM admissions review period. Additional applications are not needed in order for students to be considered or nominated for financial aid from the CSEM program. All applicants are considered for admission and financial aid.

Most, if not all, students receiving offers of admission to the CSEM program receive funding from one or more of the following sources:

Fellowships

Various types of financial support are available to qualified graduate students. UT Austin and other fellowships are awarded to students on a competitive basis and range from full support to supplementary stipends. Students holding certain competitive scholarships may qualify for resident tuition.

Graduate Research Assistantships

Graduate research assistantships are available to CSEM students through faculty research grants. Positions can range from 10 hour to 20 hour appointments with a salary of $10,800 to $47,000 per year and may additionally provide coverage of tuition and fees, depending on the offer extended.

Teaching Assistantships

Teaching Assistantships are available to CSEM students through associated UT departments. Appointments can be up to 20 hours per week with a salary of approximately $14,000 or more per year. TAships additionally provide tuition assistance for tuition and fees.

CAM Fellowship

A $5 million endowment supports the CAM Graduate Fellowship Fund for U.S. citizens. Each CAM Fellowship carries an annual support of $30,000 per year, for a maximum four year period. Up to 13 qualified graduate students are supported annually on these fellowships. Fellowships are awarded solely on the basis of merit. For the first year, a CAM Fellow is awarded a $30,000 stipend which allows the student to focus on the academic program. For each of the following three years, the $30,000 will be a combination of a CAM Fellowship stipend and other institutional funds, such as a teaching or research assistantship. In addition, CAM Fellows receive support for tuition and fees as well as an allocation for health benefits for each year of the fellowship. The continuation and renewal of CAM Fellowship support throughout this four year period is contingent upon maintaining good academic standing.
